How To Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update On Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10 Without Losing Any Data : Android 5.0 Lollipop as we all know was the biggest Android Update made available by Google since last three years. Various new features were added in Android 5.0 Lollipop as compared to previous version such as Project Volta which ensures that the user gets the maximum usage out of the Battery. These were the sweet thing about Android Lollipop 5.0.x, but as we all know nothing is perfect , Android Lollipop 5.0.x had lots of problem like Memory Leak , random restart , battery drain and lot more. To encounter this situation Google has introduced Android Lollipop 5.1 which according to Google, is more efficient and more powerful than the previous version of Android Lollipop ie 5.0.x.

Few days ago Google Announced the latest Android version ie Android Lollipop 5.1 and now their OTA update has started rolling out for Nexus 5 , Nexus 6 , Nexus 7 (wifi only) & Nexus 10. Although the OTA update rollout has started but the rollout like always is kind of slow it might take a day or a week or maybe more than that to reach you but no need to worry as we will tell you how to Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update On Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10.

Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update on Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10

Well to Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update on Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10 you don’t have to unlock the bootloader all you need to do is install the Nexus PC drivers (the links to drivers will be given below). In this process there is no need to Root your device or have Custom Recovery installed. The detailed procedure is explained below.

Prerequisite ( Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update On Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10 )

  • Download the correct Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update for your device .

NEXUS 5 : FROM ANDROID 5.0 ( LRX21O ) TO ANDROID 5.1 ( LMY47D ) / FROM ANDROID 5.0.1 ( LRX22C ) TO ANDROID 5.1 ( LMY47D )

NEXUS 6 : FROM ANDROID 5.0.1 ( LRX22C ) TO ANDROID 5.1 ( LMY47D )

NEXUS 7 ( wifi only ) : FROM ANDROID 5.0.1 ( LRX22G ) TO ANDROID 5.1 ( LMY47D )

NEXUS 10 : FROM ANDROID 5.0.1 ( LRX22G ) TO ANDROID 5.1 ( LMY47D )

 

  • Download and install Android Minimal ADB and Fastboot Tool  and install it to anywhere you like.
  • Download and install Nexus USB Drivers.
  • Turn USB DEBUGGING ON on your device to do that, Go to SETTINGS>> ABOUT PHONE>> TAP ON BUILD NUMBER 7 TIMES>> GO BACK TO SETTINGS>> DEVELOPER OPTION>> CHECK ON THE USB DEBUGGING. 
  • Make sure your device is fully charged.

How To Install Nexus PC Drivers ( Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update On Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10 )

  • With USB DEBUGGING turned on connect your device to your Desktop / Laptop.
  • Download Nexus PC Drivers.
  • Extract the drivers.
  • Open Device Manager on your Desktop / Laptop.

Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 On Nexus 5/Nexus 7/Nexus 10

 

  • Search for your Nexus Device, in my case it is Nexus 5 .
  • Right Click on your Nexus Device and then Click to Update Device Driver.
  • Now select Browse Your Computer For Drivers and then select the extracted Nexus PC Driver folder.

Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 On Nexus 5/Nexus 7/Nexus 10

  • While installing these drivers you will be required to grant permission to install simply provide that.
  • Your Nexus PC Drivers are now installed.

How To Get/Flash/Update/Install Android Lollipop 5.1 OTA Update On Nexus 5/Nexus 6/Nexus 7/Nexus 10 Without Losing Any Data

  • Turn off your Nexus Device.
  • Make sure your device has USB DEBUGGING turned on.
  • Boot into Bootloader by pressing Volume Down + Power Button Simultaneously.
  • Once in the Bootloader press volume up key two times so that you see Recovery in place of Start and then press power key so that you are in Recovery Mode.
  • Here in Recovery Mode you will see an Android Icon with Red Exclamation Mark , now press and hold volume up key and then power key to see Recovery Menu.
  • Now navigate to apply update from adb option and press power key to select it.
  • Now Connect your Nexus device to your Desktop / Laptop.
  • Move the downloaded OTA Update .zip file to Minimal ADB fastboot directory.
  • Once your device is connected and recognized open your ADB Fastboot directory and open CMD by holding shift and right clicking on your mouse and then selecting open command window, this will open Command Window , further type the following command.

adb sideload xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.zip

Note : In place of xxxxxxxxx’s type or simply copy and paste the full file name of your downloaded zip file.

  • Update will start and your device will be updated to latest Android Lollipop 5.1 without losing any data.
  • Once update reaches 100% you will be asked to reboot your device just do it.
  • Do note first boot might take couple of minutes so keep patience.
